In 2008, Some of the Seki knife authorities have formed "Challengers Knife Club" to train and inherit Seki traditional knifemaking technique and knowledge to young knife carftsmen in Seki. There are now 15 club members gathering once a month. They are working at Seki knife factories, and challenging to make their own knives after work and weekends.
JKD is trying to support and encourage them by introducing thier knives for sale. Here are some of the latest knives received.
Takuya Takahashi HTT-6 Crown in Blue Field
Takuya Takahashi has built his skills over more than a decade while working at the Hattori company, where he trained under the renowned master Ichiro Hattori.
Currently, he plays a key role in constructing the foundational structure of knife handles and the blade straightening process(Hizumi-Tori), these processes are very important when creating both quality knives and high-end knives.
Over the past few years, he has been deeply involved in creating custom handle designs for a range of Hattori "SAN" Limited Edition knives. This experience has further refined his skills and sense for knife making.
During breaks, or after work, Takahashi dedicates his personal time to crafting his own original knife designs. We’re very glad to see his growth, with his latest collection, he has brought forward his own ideas, creativity and vision.
Mr. Takahashi values a positive and joyful approach in his craft, he will no doubt continue to develop his talent and artistry as he moves forward in his knife-making journey.
When I first saw this knife by Mr. Takahashi, it instantly reminded me of the KD30 Hana and Miyabi, the crowning achievement of his mentor, Master. Ichiro Hattori. The beautifully handcrafted custom combination handle brought back the same strong impression I felt when seeing the impactful design of Hattori’s SAN Limited Edition series knife collection.
This knife is a true reflection of Mr. Takahashi’s dedication and creativity, built upon more than a decade of steady effort and growth. It feels like the perfect expression of his refined design sense and craftsmanship.
For the 5.3 Inch Solid VG-10 blade, “Dynamic” and “Powerful”, this is the good suitable words for expressing the blade. The Custom Combination Handle (Leather Washers, Natural Wood, Turquoise Gem-Composite Stone) is preceisely Hand Contoured and has a Finger Groove that provides a very secure and positive grip. Comes with a handcrafted Leather Sheath.
