Hattori

Hattori 傘 SAN Limited Edition SAN-21 Cocobolo Drop Point Hunter

Availability: Normally ships the same day

Description

This year, Master Hattori became 80 years old. In Japan, a person’s 80th birthday is commemorated with a special celebration called 傘寿 / Sanjyu. To celebrate his special anniversary year, and also his proud achievements as a Master craftsman, Hattori has decided to produce a Special Limited Edition Collection of knives called the 傘 San Series. Each item in this special limited edition collection will be marked with a Serial No.

The Hattori 傘 San Series knife collection will feature special, very limited production models, which Master Hattori can no longer produce in large quantites due to the rarity or limited availability of handle materials or blade materials.

Cocobolo wood has a rich red-brown color and a beautiful, unique natural woodgrain pattern. Hattori's fine handwork can be seen in the perfectly shaped, hand contoured, custom handles.

Mr. Hattori believes that a comfortable, well-balanced handle is just as important as a good blade, so he pays special attention to the details of the handle. In addition to carefully inspecting the exterior appearance of his handles, he also checks the durability of the materials to ensure that natural cracking and shrinkage are kept to a minimum during long-term ownership. Before being assembled and shaped, each carefully selected block of handle wood is boiled in wax for 3 hours, then cut in half to produce two 'book-matched' slabs that have 'mirror image' woodgrain patterns. In fact, when I first saw and gripped the natural wood handle, it felt pleasingly warm and comfortable in my hand.

Cocobolo Wood is becoming more rare and distinctive due to the recent introduction of restrictive import laws (Following a CITES convention that limits the international trade of endangered Rosewood species). Consequently, this will be the last batch of Hattori Big Fighter knives with Cocobolo Wood Handle produced and availability will be limited to a quantity of 50 Pcs (Serial no.’s 1-50).
