Mr. Nagata’s craftsmanship has earned him numerous accolades, including the Best Folder Award at the Seki Knife Show and the Excellent Folder Award at the JKG Knife Contest.

Ikuo Nagata IN-130 Kawasemi (Kingfisher) Raden (螺鈿) Art

This latest masterpiece, presented at the 2026 Seki Knife Show in this October, showcases his signature motif of the Kingfisher (川蝉)—a symbol bird of Seki city—expressed through Japanese Raden (螺鈿) art inlays of Abalone, White and Gold Mother of Pearl, and other natural shells on both sides of the 3-1/2" solid stainless-steel interframe handle.

The Black V-Gold Coreless Damascus 2-3/4" Stainless Steel blade with custom file work on back. Every detail, from the file-worked back spring bar to the Abalone inlaid lock release button, reflects Nagata’s meticulous dedication. Even the inside of the handle is inlaid with luminous shells, a hidden gem visible only to the owner. The V-Gold Damascus is multi-layered Damascus of Takefu VG-10 and VG-2 for longer edge retention.
