About Hattori 傘 SAN Limited

Grand Master Hattori became 80 years old. In Japan, a person’s 80th birthday is commemorated with a special celebration called 傘寿 / Sanju. To celebrate this milestone and his proud achievements as a Master craftsman, Hattori created the 傘 SAN Limited — a series of strictly limited-production knives, each one a testament to a lifetime of dedication to the craft.

This is the 159th version of Hattori "SAN" Limited edition" celebrating his 80th year old anniversary. For this edition, he chose the Cowry X Damascus Special Classic Utility Hunter (KD30-3718), pairing its distinctive blade with the natural warmth of Japanese magnolia wood. 

Japanese magnolia, known as "Ho-no-ki" in Japan, has long been used for cutting boards and traditional knife sheaths, valued for its strength, resistance to shrinkage, and suitability for hygienic everyday use. For the special handles, Master Hattori personally selected exceptional pieces with particularly beautiful grain and high quality. Each piece was then carefully treated using Hattori’s traditional wood-stabilizing process, preserving its natural character while enhancing its stability.

The magnolia wood handle is complemented by black and warm red fiber spacers, bringing a gentle touch of color to its classic, vintage-inspired design. Together, these details create a knife with a quiet warmth, reflecting Master Hattori’s thoughtful craftsmanship and deep appreciation for natural materials.

Hattori SAN-159 Limited Cowry-X Damascus Special Utility Hunter is made of Hattori's exclusive Cowry-X Damascus, Cowry-X powdered tool steel core forge layered Nickel and Stainless Damascus steel, 4" Utility blade, 4" Hand rounded Japanese Magnolia wood handle with solid Brass Hilt and Buttcap,Classic&Retro taste Black & Warm Red Fiber Spacers.  Comes with Brown leather sheath, and Gift box.

Only one knife has been made in this edition, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece. The hilt is engraved with the words “Only One”. The blade comes with the 傘 SAN etching, and the knife comes in a presentation box.
