A few years ago, Master Hattori became 80 years old. In Japan, a person’s 80th birthday is commemorated with a special celebration called 傘寿 / Sanjyu. To celebrate his special anniversary year, and his proud achievements as a Master craftsman, Hattori decided to produce a Special Limited Edition Collection of knives called the 傘 San series. 

The Hattori 傘 San series knife collection will feature special, very limited production models, which Master Hattori can no longer produce in large quantities due to the rarity or limited availability of handle materials or blade materials. 

This is the 85th release in the Hattori "SAN" Limited Edition series, which celebrates his 80th year. For the SAN-85, Master Hattori chose the KD30-MEDAKA Cowry X Damascus Slim Utility model. To make something unique and distinctive for this knife collection, Hattori decided to make an elegant, beautiful and tasteful Handle from Green Jigged Bone. Careful and precise handwork was needed to produce the beautiful, smooth surface and extra-slim profile of the Natural Moss Green Jigged Bone Handle, which required sanding the handle scales until the ‘dimples’ of the jigged bone were removed.

The Hattori SAN-85  Limited Cowry-X Damascus Slim Utility Knife has a slim 2.5-inch (65mm) blade with a Cowry-X core that is sandwiched between forge-layered Nickel/Stainless Damascus steel. The Unique Custom Elegant Smooth Bone Handle is 4-inch (100mm) long, it is fastened to the Tapered Full Tang with a large nickel silver rivet, a small pin and a lanyard hole tube. The knife includes a brown Leather Sheath and a Gift Box with the special "Sanjyu 80 year anniversary gold label. 

Cowry-X Damascus blade is 3.2mm (⅛-inch) thick and 65mm (2.5-inch) long, overall knife length 168mm (6.6-inch), weight 43g (1.5 oz).
