Master Hattori became 80 years old a few years ago. In Japan, a person's 80th birthday is commemorated with a special celebration called 傘寿 / Sanju. To celebrate his special anniversary year, and also his proud achievements as a Master craftsman, Hattori decided to produce a Special Limited Edition Collection of knives called the 傘 San Series.

The Hattori 傘 San Series knife collection features special, very limited production models, which Master Hattori can no longer produce in large quantities due to the rarity or limited availability of handle materials or blade materials.

For the 148th version of the Hattori "SAN" Limited Edition, Master Hattori decided to create a truly distinctive Cowry X Damascus Single Bevel Edge Utility Knife — a blade type of exceptional rarity, demanding the highest level of skill to grind and finish to perfection.

SAN-148 Cowry-X Damascus 紅蓮 — Guren (Single Bevel Edge)

紅蓮 / Guren — meaning "Crimson Lotus" — is the name Master Hattori has given to this creation. It is a name that express the positive passion, fierce beauty, and the wild energy of flame. Every element of this knife was chosen to live up to that name.

For the handle, Hattori selected a Jigged Bone with a fiery, deeply expressive character — its wild, dynamic texture expressing the movement and intensity of leaping flames. The rich tones and wild grain of the Jigged bone give the knife a presence that is at once beautiful and untamed, perfectly expressing the spirit of 紅蓮.

The combination of the Jigged Bone handle, Red and Black Fiber Spacers, and Nickel Silver Hilt creates a beautifully matching overall appearance — wild yet refined, passionate yet precise.

Engraved on the Nickel Silver Hilt are the words "ONLY ONE MADE" — a testament to the singular nature of this piece. This knife was crafted once, and once only. There is no other like it in the world.

The blade is a Single Bevel Edge Utility blade, forged from Cowry X Damascus Steel — one of the most prized and rare blade materials available. Each knife comes with a Brown leather sheath, a fancy gift box.
