Description
At the Seki Knife Festival’s Outdoor Knife Show, my heart was completely stolen by a collection of very distinctive and beautifully handcrafted custom knives. I became very interested in these custom knives and the craftsman who made them, so I asked him about his knife making story and his knife making philosophy.
The gentleman’s name is Tomoyoshi Arakawa and, while he is already a veteran custom knife maker, he continues to challenge himself to seek out and create his own inspiration, ideas, designs and techniques so that he can create truly distinctive custom knives.
At a young age, he fell in love with the beautiful “GERBER Silver Knight” knife, became interested in custom knife making and then began his knife making career. We believe his pure passion and love of knives greatly helped him to increase his custom knife making skills and techniques during his decades of custom knife making work, which involved considerable effort, many trials and many errors.
During the last 3 years, Mr. Arakawa has spent a great deal of time and energy developing his own special handcrafted custom resin handles. I could not resist the attraction of his collection of custom knives, which are mysterious, beautiful and wonderfully made. His handmade Custom Resin Handle can be viewed from a variety of angles, with each view providing a uniquely beautiful and exciting scene. He pays special attention when selecting the parts and crafting the handle, always seeking to make his own distinct creation and recreate the joyous feeling that his original dream knife gave him.
This distinctive collection of dream knives are 100% Custom Handmade and are 100% the product of his Mr. Arakawa’s own creative ideas and spirit.
In the future, we are excited to see more of his beautiful creations and masterpieces as he produces them for our business, and our customers.
Tomoyoshi Arakawa TA-21 King Bowie
This extraordinary custom Bowie knife is one of Mr. Tomoyoshi Arakawa’s most ambitious and memorable creations.
Mr. Arakawa has always pursued originality in his knife making. His goal is to create knives that are instantly recognizable as his own — pieces that carry his personal creativity, craftsmanship, and spirit.
This knife is especially important because it represents one of Mr. Arakawa’s most ambitious efforts in creating the Large Bowie knife collection. Although the Bowie knife is a classic style, Mr. Arakawa has brought his own distinctive design philosophy to every detail. The flowing handle shape, handmade glow resin material, Titanium butt cap, and carefully finished D2 blade all express his desire to create something truly unique.
The 6mm thick D2 tool steel blade has a stonewashed finish on the blade and Ricasso, while the edge area has been mirror polished and mist finished. This gives the knife a strong, refined, and highly distinctive appearance.
The handle is made from Mr. Arakawa’s original handmade glow resin with stainless steel wool. For this special piece, he used both green and blue luminous materials, creating a mysterious and beautiful expression that changes with the light and viewing angle. The handle is secured with mosaic pins, while the hilt is crafted from nickel silver with brass spacers.
The Titanium butt cap has been carefully shaped and anodically colored, adding another special detail to this one-of-a-kind creation.
Although this knife has the presence of an art piece, Mr. Arakawa never forgets practical function. The grip comfort, balance, and cutting performance have all been carefully considered.
This knife received the highest prize at the All Nippon Knife Show held on March 7th and 8th in year 2026, following Mr. Arakawa’s award-winning achievement from the previous year. It is a milestone piece in his career and a truly special collector’s knife.
